During a weekly virtual meetup today. I heard intense criticism about using AI-created content like ChatGPT as useless. The speaker elaborated on the misleading and poor quality of AI-generated content. Journalists and copywriters are not lazy.
As a content producer for more years than I care to mention, there are some habits formed that we keep as writers. Write, rewrite, and check sources. And in the old days, not including attributions on copy could be lethal to careers. Working for global companies where all public facing requires tiers of reviewers, the habit of rewriting and editing to the final copy is routine.
Although ChatGPT and others are handy and marvelous tools, the caveat is needful editing. The bot conversation style still needs to be more concise with a greater economy of words. Editing copy, no matter the creator, is still important. And we never ask what we don’t already know something about or need a short article generated to share a point.
Artificial intelligence (AI) generated content has become increasingly popular in recent years due to its ability to create content with minimal human intervention quickly. However, using AI-generated content requires responsibility, just like any other informative content.
Copywriters and journalists have a responsibility to inform their audience accurately and truthfully. This includes ensuring that their content is based on reliable sources and is factually accurate. The same standards should apply when using AI-generated, which should be carefully reviewed and fact-checked for reliability and accuracy.
Thus, it is essential to review and edit the content thoroughly to ensure that it meets the necessary standards of reliability and accuracy. AI-generated content can be a great tool for generating ideas and introducing salient points of interest that human writers may overlook. However, it should not replace human creativity and judgment. While AI algorithms can generate vast amounts of content quickly, the quality of that content may suffer.
In conclusion, using AI-generated content requires a measure of responsibility and care. While AI can be a valuable tool for generating ideas and content, human creativity and judgment should remain the same. The writer is responsible for ensuring that their content is informative, reliable, and valuable to their audience, regardless of whether a human or a machine created it.
